Pacific Northwest College of Art hosted Children’s Creativity: Why the Visual Arts Matter, November 11-14, 2009. This four day symposium focused on the relevance of artistic processes of inquiry, reflection, and expression to the cognitive, emotional, and social development of children. November 12 & 13 2009
Ellen will be the keynote speaker at the Children’s Creativity Symposium at the Pacific Northwest College of Art on Thursday, November 12. In her talk, she will examine the unlimited imaginative dimensions of children’s experiences. In addition to the keynote address, she will also give a lecture titled, “Reflections on Space and Childhood,” where she’ll discuss the complex and powerful role of visual arts in the emotional and cognitive development of children.
She will also conduct a one-hour interview on Oregon Public Radio.

Summer 2009
Ellen is the Guest Editor of the current issue of "The Journal of Aesthetic Education," Volume 43, Number 2, Summer 2009. The topic of this issue is Children's Literature.
The University of Illinois Press has decided to submit it for a Council of the Editors of
Learned Journals
(CELJ) prize.

Ellen is speaking at the Wilma Theater, Philadelphia, on a panel before the evening performance of "Hysteria," a play by the British playwright Terry Johnson. The panel is entitled "The Metamorphoses of Sigmund: Freud and His Afterlives."

Ellen has been in residence as the Erikson Scholar this autumn term at the Erik H. Erikson Institute for Education and Research at the Austen Riggs Center, Stockbridge, MA.  As a culmination of her residency there, she will present two public lectures on December 5th and 6th, 2008.
